Two New Taiwan Tastes For The New Year!
One weekend at a hypermart in Singapore..
While my wife handled the checkout, I lugged the bags of groceries, lingering into the open sales spaces beyond the cashiers..
Happily, as I always do.
I scanned more goodies for the festive season on display and on promotion.
Something caught my eye!
Not believing what I saw, I swaggered ahead with heavy loads on each hand, to the corner in excitement.
“Is this authentic from Taiwan?”
I blurted out to the aunty sales promoter.
She looked up, a little surprised by this eager visitor, appearing so suddenly at her empty corner.
Where had this alcoholic popped up from?! She might just be thinking.
I’m just kidding. :-)
“Yes, this is imported from Taiwan.”
Aunty replied before her right hand started pouring a bottle into a tray of small clear mini cups held by her left hand (see photo)..
I declined the free sample, before the golden brew could be seen haha.
“Come, come have a try.. This has just arrived..” Aunty offered further in Mandarin to me.
New Taiwan taste in Singapore!
This was the first time I spotted Taiwan beer in Singapore!
The can design looked very different from the Taiwan beer we drank when in the island. Likely a different styling for markets outside of Taiwan..
The next weekend, we were back at the hypermart. This time we were shopping for festive goodies for the Chinese New Year.
And in this trip, we discovered a favourite snack that seemed to appear only during the festive season.
If you have not tasted this before, may I recommend that you try:
A finger-licking taste of Taiwan!
We first tasted this vegetables chips snack many Chinese New Year celebrations ago. Crunchy pieces of veggies mix of carrot, taro, sweet potato, green bean to mushroom were dehydrated (?) into crispy chips.
You can savour the mild to flavourful vegetable taste beneath the seasonings.
As I later read from the label, this yummy-tasting veggies titbit is a product from Taiwan!
Now they (moms, elders and all) will no longer be able to urge you to eat your veggies — because you will be snacking away happily on this veggie chips!
