Honeymoon Taipei Day 2. Part 2..
March 19, 2008 by TA
Surprise, surprise!
Roaming the streets surrounding TS Hotel, we bought bowls of instant Beef Noodles & Pocari Isotonic drinks from QuanJia (Family) Mart. The counter gals gave NO service.
I asked for a bag to carry my stuff. Gal asked for TWD1! Huh?! :-(
If you’ve missed Part 1 of Day 2..
Later on, we learnt of “use-no-bag, own-self-take” shopping habit in Convenience Stores and even in Geant and Carrefour Hypermarts! Another fun lesson for us! This “bring-your-bag-or-pay-for-one” recycling effort was also finally implemented in Singapore a year after we returned from Taipei.. Yes, you’ll see the precious TWD1 bag we brought back home haha! :-P
To protect our bodies from heat-related conditions for our noon out in sun-soaked DanShui, we immersed ourselves, luxuriating in the hotel bath tub while I napped for 30 minutes. A quick dinner of Beef Cup Noodles and Fried Mushrooms, then we took Mrt to WuFenPu Apparel Wholesale Centre.
Typical of a wholesale place, the shop operators rarely beckoned the crowds passing by.
Most were busy managing their stocks, collecting goods delivered to their stall fronts by motorbikes fixed with load-carrying trolleys! No pricing signs as expected too. Wife enjoyed browsing but was too tired to seek prices to buy anything. I felt the place lacked better structure: a BiG maze of hard-to-identify narrow lanes squeezed-shared by shoppers, retailers & load-ferrying motorbikes! Cool evening air though.
Walking out, we bought a pack of eyedrop (TWD200!) at Watsons for my painful eyes and my favourite Red Tea TWD10 packet drink for wife.
Found our way to RaoHe Night Market. Enjoyed Pepper Bun/Biscuit TWD40 each, Pearl Pancakes (Red Bean ones at TWD20 + 1 Champagne Grape Ice-cream flavour TWD20), Seaweed Sweet Corn TWD40, small pack of Fried Chicken meat TWD50..
Located the Stinky Tofu stall along the middle of the Night Market. Diners were sitting around, tucking into the large servings which scared my wife from trying this famed (or feared) Taiwanese dish haha!
Retracing our route, we hurried back to HouShanPi Mrt Station by 11:50pm to catch the train back. Invigorated, we K. O. at 2am. Again! ;-)
Read on.. More adventures ahead. Shall we do the northern coast tomorrow?
