Honeymoon Taipei Day 2. Part 1..
…. Day 2: DanShui Town . WuFenPu Apparel Wholesale Centre. RaoHe Night Market ….
Planned for today was an itinerary bringing us out to farther Taipei. Into YehLiu Geological Park and KeeLung..
But were we fatigued!
My eyes were reddish, painfully dry and smaller than black beans! We slept late last night, yet awoke from our excitement at 6am+ this morning!
After a yummy breakfast at TS with much-needed coffee, we decided quickly - better not go too far out Taipei. We’ll leave the more challenging YehLiu-KeeLung route for another day..
So off this pair of tourists went, hanging around Taipei Main (Mrt, Railway) Station and its adjoining mall. It was good to see the morning action: shops opening, crowds heading to work.. Especially knowing that you are not a part of the morning rush haha!
Let’s visit DanShui Town. It was hastily decided.
Wide-eyed at our surroundings, snapping photos and chatting away during our Mrt ride. This became the manner we would enjoy our Mrt journeys through the honeymoon..
A scorching hot DanShui greeted us once we alighted from DanShui Mrt Station..
Diving into the lanes ahead, we browsed the shopfronts to finally found menu of suitable dishes with agreeable prices (!) at HuangPinYang Railway Track Boxed Meal.
“Yin liao ne?” Shop operator pointed to a big container when I asked him about drinks.. I filled the paper cups with - yum yum, cold Winter Melon Tea! I guessed - it was free flow with the meal! What a delightful Taipei travel lesson to learn!
My Chicken Cutlet Rice set and wife’s Squid Cutlet Rice set were simply delicious!
Tasted just like those boxed meals I had in 1991! Big portions worthy of its TWD70 price each set. We didn’t finish our rice.
After lunch, we wandered deeper into the streets. Taking pics at Christian missionary Dr Mackay’s bust monument, through the streets and along the breezy riverside.
Along the scenic waterfront, a number of interesting themed stores enlivened an already lovely atmosphere.. There was this Paleo Wonders (archaelogy-themed retail store with dinosaur on roof). Further down, Amazon (store with toucan bird on roof; TWD49) engaged us with its strange exhibits of wildlife.
Turning into DanShui Old Street, we bought Fried Mushrooms TWD50 and Fruit Juice as we chatted with the friendly stall owners.
No wonder DanShui is famed for its relaxed, laidback ambience! What an idyllic, even romantic breakaway from the city!
Returning on the Mrt, I spotted a lady carrying a bag with a cool label. Asked for permission then took a pic of it: my name was on the bag!
Meaningful indeed! See photo to know what and why..
Read on.. Our first surprise came right after this. Here’s Taipei lesson number 2..
