Sorry For My (Unannounced) Absence..

Something went wrong?

Oops! It’s been more than a month since I last posted here! What happened? About 2 months ago, my wife and I had begun the process of selling away our apartment..

... A time to hold, a time to let go. Moving on to a greater deed! ...

... A time to hold, a time to let go. Moving on to a greater deed! ...

Next followed the process of moving to our new place. And the remaining days (of absence from blogging here) saw us hurriedly settling down at our new location..

I was without access to the internet, and had not kept in touch with you all here. I am sorry.

Why this move?

My dad and mum are 80 and 75 years old respectively. About 2 years ago, dad was diagnosed with dementia, which worsened rapidly towards the end of last year.

In March this year, my wife and I prayed and decided to make a critical move. We decided to move in with our parents.

I come from a family of 7 siblings. Except for my eldest brother staying with my parents, the other siblings have their own families to manage.

The turning point

In 2005, my wife and I had already moved from the West area to Central area where my parents reside. To make ourselves available for my aging parent’s needs, we moved to stay about 3 bus stop’s away from their apartment block.

With dad’s dementia worsening around the end of 2007, we often received and attended to many frantic calls for help from my mum. A turning point arrived when dad was hastily hospitalized for a case of dyspepsia, which we subsequently took charge to manage his hospital stay and follow up treatment..

Finally in March this year, we felt the timing was critical and made the move to stay in with them.

... More junk than we imagined haha! ...

Challenges ahead?

Like a look into what challenges are in front of us right now?

1. Top priority is to settle down.

To create working, living, sleeping spaces out of a bedroom 9.5 by 13 feet in size.

Give you an idea: I don’t even have space now to fit in a proper table for our main computer and peripherals ha. Writing this blog with my laptop on yes - my lap!

2. To better parents and their place.

What do you think I (and my wife too) need to do for our parents? Pick from these tasks:

A) Maintain tidiness, and hygiene in the whole apartment (meaning to discard junks, paint/ renovate when necessary, clean and wash up every day..).

B) Renew and upkeep the apartment (with space organisation, new furnishings, constant household fix-its..).

C) Maintain the safety, security, health and medical well being of parents and occupants in the apartment.

We are doing all of these. :-)

3. Finally, to begin work.

Adjusting to the new environment. Doing all the 3 categories of responsibilities listed above. Getting productive while tending to my (often exhausted) mum, and for special mention - my restless dad and his mischiefs (ouch!).

In a nutshell, to manage (perform) and cope (excel) as a son, a husband, and an entrepreneur. It isn’t easy at all too for my incredibly supportive wife.

Sorry once again

Ok. Enough about me and my life.

Dear reader, the next time I take a break from blogging, I’ll tell you all well ahead, right here in TaipeiDreams. Appreciate you reading this message, thanks!

P. S. As I penned this apology in the afternoon, my dad has strolled over to the neighbour’s apartment, picked 3 plastic cloth pegs (from their laundry outside) to bring back. Not once, but thrice! Twice I had him returned what he took. On the final third time, I returned the pegs myself.. :-(

What’s going on in TaipeiDreams now? Stay in touch - free by email. Thks. :-)

I’ll be back for you soon,
Dave
